Arcata Bulk Department

Packing up your gear and heading for the trailhead? Most likely we will be seeing you here at the Co-op before you head out of town and into the great outdoors. The Arcata Co-op's bulk department is more than ready to outfit any hungry hiker. Expect to see some exciting changes and additions as we gear up for summer.

The bulk department just finished reorganizing all the bins to hopefully make it easier for you to find what you need. Along with a little spring cleaning and a more logical arrangement of the sections, we were able to make room for an entirely organic backpacking line! From the time I started working at the Co-op, I hoped that one day we would find organic backpacking food for our bulk department. Like a dream come true, MaryJanesFarm found us!

Look for 13 new organic trail foods from MaryJanesFarm. From breakfast to dessert, these meals are wonderfully flavored and perfect for the trail. The variety we carry should please any hungry hiker, after all, is it not every hiker's dream to enjoy warm, gooey, chocolate chip cookies at the end of a long day on the trail?

For those of you not familiar with MaryJanesFarm, Mary Jane is a former environmental activist, who started her business to make a positive change by educating and creating a demand for organic food from the farmers in her area. Dedicated to sustainability and the health of our Earth, Mary Jane's farm produces organic grains, herbs, and produce for their meals on the go.

MaryJanesFarm also works with a network of 20 farms in Moscow, Idaho. The farm includes a modern flourmill alongside a historic flourmill and a non-profit educational farm school. The school was founded with the mission to cultivate organic farmers and create positive change. Apprentices actually live the reality of farming by being active participants and living on the farm.

Everyone at the farm enjoys eating the instant organic food that the company produces. Wholesome and convenient whether you prepare it in the office, out in the fields, or even at home after a hard day's work. Stop by the bulk department at the Arcata Co-op and pick up some organic Santa Fe Pasta or Curried Lentil Couscous or any one of our 13 trail choices. Healthy hiking to all!
